AMERICUS —
“Elijah said to Elisha stay here, because the Lord has sent me to Jericho. A young group of the prophet form Jericho approached Elisha and said to him. “Do you know that the Lord is going to take your master away from you today? Elisha said I know. “Now Don’t talk about it .” (Common English Bible)
Elijah and Elisha stood beside the Jordan River. Elijah took his coat off, rolled it up and hit the water. The water divided in two. Both of them crossed over on dry ground. When they had crossed Elijah said to Elisha, “What do you want me to do for you before I’m taken form you? Elisha said. “Let met have twice your spirit.” Elijah said you’ve made a difficult request. If you can see me when I am taken from you, then it will be yours.
They were walking along talking, when suddenly a fire chariot and fire horses appeared and separated the two of them. Then “Elijah went to heaven in windstorm.”
As I look at the character of Elijah, it is not difficult to list the memorable qualities of his spirit, I pray you let me inherit a double share of our spirit. Elijah put the Lord first in his life.
He no doubt saw Elijah working under adverse conditions, but Elijah’s spirit of courage came through.
Elisha has seen Elijah’s faith and wanted a double portion of that faith.
Elisha saw the ideals of Elijah and wanted those ideals to guide his life.
Elisha saw the truth of Elijah’s character and longed to have such a character. Elisha saw Elijah’s life he; he saw the light of his life.
Elisha saw the truth of Elijah’s character and longed to have such a character.
