ELLAVILLE — Schley senior citizens have active December

Carleen Beckwith, director of our local Schley County Senior Citizens Center here in Ellaville, said that the seniors had a very active December and they stayed real busy.

They collected clothes and food and made a donation to Kings Customs clothing bank here in Ellaville.

One day they made Christmas goodies. They made sausage balls, buckeyes and dream fingers.

They also got up Christmas gifts as well as goodies bags and they went to visit some seniors who are residents at the Ideal Nursing Home. These are Schley County residents. They all were given a Christmas gift and bags of special Christmas goodies.

On Friday before Christmas the Rainbow Garden Club gave the Senior Center a Christmas party. They served delicious refreshments and gave each person a special gift.

There are 25 seniors who come to the Senior Citizen Center each day to eat lunch and socialize with one another. The center is very active and they take part in so many community activities.



Newly opened Power Alley now in operation

The Power Alley here in Ellaville is now under new ownership. Jonathan Hughes is the new owner. Manager is Kristie Hortman and she is over the training facility.

They had a Grand Opening from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.

Shelby Whaley, FNP-BC of Southland Branch Family Practice of Ellaville, conducted a Health Fair from 10 a.m.-noon. Shelby took blood [pressure and body mass indices.

Zumba instructor Elaina Lockhart and Subway were in attendance that day to offer exercise and nutrition information.

Kristie said she's leaning toward people looking at the gym as more than a weight lifting facility.

“It's all that and more,” she says.

They have machines that can assist people with weight loss and physical therapy. Kristie said that she has gotten several members already to set them up with a weight loss guide and physical therapy routines.

Their motto is "Exercise and Live Longer.” Their fees are on a reduced scale now for their Grand Reopening and a New Year’s Resolution. Cost for monthly contract for an individual is $20, a family of two is $40, family of three is $60 and a senior family is $40. A six-month contract for an individual is $100, family of two is $200, family of three is $300 and a senior family $100.

A year contract for individual $200, a family of for $400, a family of three $600 and a senior family $200. There is a one time key-less entry fee of $ 20. Birth announcement

Randy and Megan Raybon are proud to announce the birth of a son, Ryan Westin Raybon, on Jan. 19, 2013. He weighed 7 lbs. 11 oz.. and was 21 inches long. He will be called Westin.

Grandparents are Sue Pilcher of Americus and Jimmy and Christine Raybon of Plains and Anne Middlebrook of Plains is his great-grandmother.

 

Schley Board of Commissioners makes announcement

The Schley County Board of Commissioners have announced that they have used the money that was donated to them from the Schley County Sesquicentennial Chairman Nancy McMath Young.

This money was given to the County in 2007, after the big Sesquicentennial Celebration for the use of our courthouse only.

The chairman presented a check for $6,114 a long with a document stating that the money was to be used on the courthouse only.

The Commissioners have just recently used the money when they did repairs under the roof and the bell tower by using steel beams. Commissioner Douglas Jamieson said now the courthouse  is sound and strong now.

I must say that the Commissioners are trying to renovate our courthouse, All of us that live here must still help them renovate this special landmark. Everyone started when we all voted for the SPLOST to be used for this special project. First the courthouse is history and second it's the biggest landmark for the city and county. It is Ellaville .

This is a special project for the historical society to try to help raise money to preserve our landmarks here. So when the historical society comes to you please join us in our projects to raise money to save these special part of history.

Keep getting federal benefit checks

Please read this carefully and don’t delay! On March 1, everyone that receives the following federal benefit checks by mail you will not be receiving them anymore by mail. You are required to switch to electronic payments. You are required to have your checks switched to electronic payments.

You must have your checks deposited into a) direct deposit, b) pre-paid debit card of a saving account. These checks should be taken care of immediately: Social Security, Supplemental Social Security Income, Veterans Affairs, Railroad Retirement Board. Officials of Personal Management and Department of Labor  (Black Lung).

Don't delay! Don’t wait until time runs out. Learn more about this change. Call your Social Security Office or where ever your check comes from and check on how to transfer your funds into the your banking business.

If you don't get this fixed by March 1, you will not receive your checks in the mail at all and won’t have any money. This will not be your elected officials’ fault it will be yours only for not taking care of your money.

Your bank that you choose to use can help you as well. It's fast and easy to get direct deposit for your benefits right into your checking account, saving account or a pre-paid debit card.

So go to your telephones and call your local federal agent that can help you with this transfer to banking for your direct deposit. This will help you out where you can have money in March.
