Nancy M. Young: June 30, 2009

On June 16, Frederick and I were having lunch in Granny's Kitchen in Americus when we both saw a table full of Ellaville people. It was the Joy Club of the Ellaville Baptist Church.

This group goes out often and has a meal at different places.

Those that were having lunch out were Wilson and Jane Weathersby, Kathryn Addy, Clarence and Jewel Willis, Neva Greene, Eva Clark, Carol Sue Devane, Grace Theus, Joe and Dean Allen, Dave and Lois Nelson and France Stuckey.

This group was having themselves a real good time.

Community of Opportunities

Our final Community of Opportunities will meet at 10 a.m. July 7 at the Ellaville/Schley County Chamber of Commerce. This special committee has been invited for lunch at noon at the Wildcat Country Cafe.

We will try to finish up on adult literacy, as well as some other special projects.

All committee members please mark this on your calendars.

For more information please contact John T. Greene.

Bought a new home

Jesse and P.J. Wilson have bought themselves a home. They have purchased the Lewis and Connie Phillips home on Ga. Highway 26 west of Ellaville.

As everyone knows this is not a new house, but this special place has surely been taken care of throughout the years, and of course it new to Jesse and P.J.

Jesse said that they are hoping to move in this week-end.

We are all so proud for this couple and wish them well in their new home.

Attended Paula Deen event

On June 23, Paula Deen was in Americus at the Georgia Southwestern University Students Success Center. This was a special fundraiser event for the Boys and Girls Club of Sumter County, the annual Steak & Stake.

There was a dinner before the program, then the program by Paula Deen. She had with her her husband and two sons, Jamie and Bobby Deen.

Those attending from Ellaville were Shirley Montgomery, Mary Grimsley, Richard and Romona Stradford, Terry Whaley and his friend, and Wilbur and Vicki Justice. The Justices had the meal as well as the program.

Everyone seemed to have really enjoyed this special event.

City of Ellaville special notice

Ellaville City Manager Debbie Pilcher wants to notify all residents of Ellaville that they have been put on County water now. We were connected to the County water system on June 19. This is only temporary until they can get the well and pumps fixed up.

The City and County have three special places that each can hook up to get water. If the City needs water, we can hook up as well as the County; if they need water from the City, all are using the same water systems.

Don't worry; everything should be back in operation in a week or two.

Local residents attend wedding

On June 11, Mr. and Mrs. Billy McCorkle , and their son William, Diana and daughter Emily McCorkle traveled to Apollo Beach, Fla. for a special wedding. They attended the wedding of Melissa McCorkle and Nicholas Snyder.

Melissa McCorkle is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight McCorkle of Apollo Beach, Fla., and the granddaughter of the late Weston McCorkle of Ellaville and the niece of Billy and Alene McCorkle also of Ellaville.

They were married at 11 a.m. on June 13, 2009, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Ruskin, Fla. Another beachside wedding ceremony was held later that same afternoon.

The bride was gowned in two different lovely outfits.

On Friday night before the wedding, they attended the rehearsal dinner.

A lovely reception was held with an elegant dinner party, and dancing after the meal.

The couple plan on making their home in Alexander, Va.

The McCorkles returned home on June 15.
