Americus Fire and Emergency Services
• Firefighters assisted EMS on Lakeview Circle, Knollwood and Masonic drives, Mill Creek Road, East Lamar, Mayo and South Lee streets.
• Firefighters investigated a report of smoke coming from Lake Hancock. When firefighters made contact with the complainant, he said he noticed some unknown substance bubbling and smoke coming from the lake. Firefighters attempted to rake the bottom of the lake in the area of the substance. The owner went back to his house to get a hook to scrap the bottom of the lake. While the property owner was gone, firefighters noticed a white substance that looked like dry ice. The substance dissipated and stopped smoking and bubbling while firefighters watched. The owner returned and attempted to rake the bottom of the lake. He found nothing, and firefighters found no hazard.
• Firefighters responded to a false alarm on Allen Street. The call was for medical help, but when firefighters arrived on the scene, residents said they had the wrong house — no one had called for emergency services. When firefighters called dispatch, that was the only address they had, and firefighters never found the correct address.
• Firefighters responded to a call about a gas odor on West Church Street. When they arrived on scene, firefighters found a bottle of insecticide that had been spilled, which caused the odor.
• Firefighters responded to a contained cooking fire on Mayo Street. When they arrived, firefighters were taken to the second floor of the building, where the occupant said he’d been cooking on the stove, and his food caught fire. The occupant said he’d put out the fire and ventilated the apartment. Firefighters assisted ventilation of the top hallway, and reset the alarm.
• Firefighters responded to a contained trash fire on North Lee Street. Upon arrival, firefighters found a grass fire and extinguished it. The owner of the property said he’d dumped charcoal on the ground, which had started the fire.
• Firefighters responded to a false alarm on South Lee Street. The alarm was canceled while firefighters were on their way to the alarm. They found out from Georgia Southwestern State University’s police that someone had pulled a fire alarm without merit.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm with no fire on Habitat Street.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm, but no fire on West Forsyth Street. A firefighter walked through and found no smoke or fire. When firefighters contacted the owner of the property, he said he’d been having problems with his alarm system.
Americus Police Department
Arrests
• Benjamin Keith Collins, 55, of 1005 Douglas Circle, Americus is charged with obstruction and failure to appear, and was jailed.
• Adam Shane Crowley, 21, of 1108-B Douglas Circle, Americus is charged with burglary. He admitted to the burglary, according to police reports. Crowley allegedly took a Honeywell money change machine, $2,800 cash, $500 cash in $20 bills, $1,500 cash, which police recovered and a flyer from Mediacom Cable (a piece of paper.) Crowley was released on bond.
• Martin Davis, 41, of 118 Pecan Terrace, Americus is charged with probation violation, and was jailed.
• Terrence Neraliski Horne, 31, of 954 Martin Luther King Drive, Richland was arrested on a bench warrant and is charged with probation violation, and was jailed.
• Joseph Jerry Lewis Jr., 21, of 211 Hosanna Circle, Americus is charged with driving while license suspended or revoked and a seat belt violation.
• Ella Pearl Moran, 66, of 112 Laurel Circle, Americus is charged with noncompliance and reckless and dangerous use of weapons. Officers found her after a complaint had been filed about a possibly intoxicated subject walking in and out of traffic carrying a stick near the Shell Station on West Forsyth Street.
• Donna Sapp, 47, of 123 Heads Ave., Americus is charged with aggravated battery, and was jailed.
• Ricardo Chavezs Waters, 28, of 359 Rockdale Road, Americus is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, criminal interference with government property and obstruction, and was jailed.
• Victor Woods, 34, of 133 East Peppermint Way, Americus is charged with assault/battery.
Incidents
• A hit and run accident was reported on Crawford Street.
• An unruly juvenile and a run away juvenile were reported on Lonnie Lane.
• A burglary was reported on Lily Lane. Golden rings were taken from a jewelry book in the victim’s master bedroom.
• Theft by taking was reported on Southerfield Road. A black metal mailbox worth $55 was taken.
• A vehicle colliding with a fixed object was reported on East Lamar Street.
• A burglary was reported on South Jackson Street.
• Criminal trespass was reported on Simmons Street. A refrigerator was taken.
• A patient walked out of Phoebe Sumter Medical Center’s emergency room before he was cleared to leave. The subject had a head wound — a knot on the back of his head — but didn’t have any lacerations or head trauma — the CAT scan had proven this. The complainant said the victim was intoxicated when he arrived. The complainant gave police a description of the man, and police intended on patrolling the area. But, before police began, a family friend found the man and returned him to the emergency room.
• A domestic problem was reported in the parking lot of Wendy’s on Crawford Street.
• A domestic disturbance was reported on Ridge Street. Police made contact with the complainant, and she said she’d been having problems with people threatening her — some were juveniles and some were young adults, who had been selling drugs in the area — which was Douglas Circle and Ridge Street. She said she’d been trying to notify authorities and she’d called a number of times. The complainant said the juveniles and young adults had cursed at her, sat on her front and rear porches and threatened to burn down her house, but she couldn’t provide anyone’s name. The complainant said the subjects usually sit on a power box on Douglas Circle. Police told her to notify the housing authority about the problem.
• Aggravated battery was reported on Sharon Drive.
• A burglary was reported on Tom Hall Circle. A laptop worth $400, two camcorders worth $800, a U.S. silver dollar made in 1874 or 1875 worth $50, a Fossil watch with a Georgia Bulldog face worth $100, a Seiko watch worth $75, a Playstation 2 game system with various games worth $250, a Casio electric keyboard worth $150, diamond bracelets with “Xs” and “Os” worth $500, necklaces worth $500 and blank Wachovia checks were taken.
• An unruly juvenile was reported on Varsity Drive. The complainant said her 11-year-old son had been displaying unruly behavior towards her and her husband and said her son is a troubled individual in school. At times, the complainant said, her son leaves their residence without permission and returns home between 9:30 and 10 p.m. Police spoke with the child about his behavior, and the child said he took medication for an attention disorder, but he refused to take his medication that day. The child said when he doesn’t take his medication, he becomes erratic and unstable. Officers got the child to take his medication, and officers gave the child a verbal warning.
• A domestic problem was reported on West Lester Street. When officers arrived, a man at the residence said he hadn’t called the police, but there was a minor verbal dispute between himself and his girlfriend, but there was no physical violence. The man’s girlfriend confirmed this. Both appeared to the police officers in fine condition.
• An unruly juvenile was reported on East Lester Street. The complainant said her 13-year-old daughter left her grandmother’s residence without permission or without telling her father or grandmother where she was going. When the grandmother spoke with her granddaughter on the phone, she said she’d left with a female, and was in Warner Robins now, but they were now on their way back to Americus. Police advised the grandmother to contact the police again if the granddaughter didn’t get home in a timely matter.
• A domestic problem was reported on Hosanna Circle. The complainant said her son had taken her car without permission and had no valid driver’s license — just a learner’s permit. Police placed a look-out for the car and the juvenile.
• A domestic problem was reported on Norman Cole Street. The complainant said her daughter had recently been jailed and had a 10-month-old son in the care of the father’s mom. The complainant said she and the other set of grandparents had a mutual agreement to alternate days taking care of the child. The complainant said she wanted to take care of the child that day, but the other grandparents wouldn’t agree to let her watch the child. The complainant wanted officers to go to the other grandparents’ residence and have the child removed and put into the complainant’s custody. When the police said they didn’t have the authority to do that, the complainant said her daughter would be released from jail in a couple of days, and said she was just upset because she hadn’t seen her grandchild since her daughter was put in jail.
• A possible theft was reported on Southerfield Road. The complainant said a black male was parked on the side of Southerfield Road in a black Volvo station wagon. The subject was dragging a hose pipe to his vehicle. The complainant said the subject said he was getting a water hose because his dog bit a hole in his. When police spoke with the subject, he told the police he thought the hose was trash on the side of the road. Officers also questioned the subject about a computer monitor and a keyboard in his car, as well, and the subject said he’d found them in front of Staley Middle School.
• Theft by shoplifting was reported at the Dollar General in Perlis Plaza on East Forsyth Street. Four packs of men’s Hanes tank tops worth $23, two packs of Polaroid One-Touch cameras worth $12 and one pack of size four diapers worth $6 were taken.
• A hit and run traffic accident was reported on Ridge Street. A vehicle struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian was not injured.
• An unruly juvenile was reported on Hanson Drive.
• A hit and run traffic accident was reported at the intersection of Prince Street and Bozeman Circle.
• A burglary was reported on Ridge Street.
• A hit and run traffic accident was reported on Adderton Street.
• Harassing phone calls were reported on Reddick Drive.
• Theft by taking and criminal trespass were reported at Grits and Grub on Tripp Street.
• Theft by taking and criminal trespass were reported at the Chevron Gas Station on East Lamar Street.
• Theft by taking and criminal trespass were reported at the Goodwill on West Jefferson Street.
• Theft by taking was reported on Lawson Drive. A red, white and gray 12-speed mountain bike worth $100 was taken.
• Theft by taking and criminal trespass were reported at Monroe’s Hot Dogs on West Lamar Street.
• Theft by taking and criminal trespass were reported at the Windsor Hotel on West Lamar Street.
• A domestic problem was reported on Holly Drive. When police arrived, the complainant said he’d been walking his dog in front of a residence when a confrontation took place. The complainant said the other person, a man, had approached him and asked him why he’d been spreading rumors about him. The complainant said the man punched him and began assaulting him. Police spoke with the other person, who said he’d been standing in his yard and a man walking his dog walked in front of his residence. The man began yelling, saying he was going to call the police on him, but at no point did the two make physical contact. Officers saw no physical evidence there’d been a fight on either subject.
• Burglary was reported on Eastview Drive. A yellow and green John Deere lawn mower worth $400, a red weed eater, a black weed eater and a tool box containing tools were taken.
• Theft by taking was reported on Frieda Lane. A purple mountain bike was taken.
• A hit and run accident was reported on Ga. Highway 30 West.
• Simple battery was reported on Lonnie Lane.

• Chasatie Marie Halstead of 99 Welch Lane, Ellaville and Sarah Caitlyn Bass of 847 Concord Church Road, Ellaville were each charged with following too closely after a minor accident Friday.

Arrest
• Willie C. Laramore, 31, of 121 Howell St., Leslie is charged with cruelty to children, and was jailed.
Sumter County Fire Department
• Firefighters assisted EMS workers on Still Quarter Circle, Sylvan Drive, Ga. Highway 27 and Sam Hill and Small Piece roads.
• Firefighters responded to a malfunctioning alarm on North Hunter Drive. When firefighters arrived, they found the resident circling his house with a gun. The resident was not aware the alarm was going off. When firefighters investigated, they found no fire or smoke. Firefighters helped the resident find his faulty detector, and the resident said he’d call his alarm company in the morning.
• Firefighters responded to a vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of U.S. Highway 280 West and U.S. Highway 19 South. When firefighters arrived, they found a vehicle on fire on its side in a ditch. The driver had already been removed from the car, and EMS was caring for the driver. Firefighters extinguished the fire, and remained on the scene until the car was removed from the ditch.

• Tishema Octavia Billups, 17, of 501 E. Jefferson St., Americus is charged with the disruption of a public school, and was released on bond.
• Shamaya Shaquanta Campbell, 18, of 101 Cornelia Drive, Americus is charged with the disruption of a public school, and was released on bond.
• Terrell Antonio Dowdell, 26, of 1403 Parker St., Americus is charged with probation violation, and was jailed.
• Robert Clay Durham, 39, of Douglas, Alaska, is charged with falsely reporting a crime, and was jailed.
• James Larry Floyd, 31, of Columbus is charged with probation violation, and was jailed.
• Maribel Fabela Garcia, 26, of 802 Ga. Highway 45 South, Plains is charged with a violation of school attendance law, and was released on bond.

• Lawrence Williams, 55, of 112 Pecan Circle, Plains is charged with simple assault, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and discharging a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, and was released on bond.
