GSW, SGTC, ASU, ATC discuss plans to stimulate local economy

AMERICUS — With the Georgia economy in disrepair, cities and counties across the state are struggling financially. The problems are especially acute in the rural areas of the state. Leadership at local and regional levels will play an important role in rekindling the market.

Presidents from Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) and South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) in Americus and Albany State University (ASU) and Albany Technical College (ATC) met at GSW recently to discuss ways to stimulate economic development in Southwest Georgia.

"We are convinced that by working together and pooling some of our resources we can have a greater impact on our respective communities than if we try to go it alone," said GSW President Kendall Blanchard. "We are in the early stages of a proposal that still needs much work but are optimistic that our combined efforts will ultimately bear fruit."
