Three Schley County High School band students selected to International Honor Band
ELLAVILLE — It’s a long way from the quaint southern town of Ellaville to the bustling metropolis of Paris, France, but three Schley County High School band students have played their way across the pond. The three members — Shay-Leigh Gill, Savannah Hoffman and Glenn Oliver — have been selected to be a part of The Georgia International Honor Band.
Along with band director Tiffany Downs, the three members will be traveling to London and Paris to perform at Disneyland Paris, and at Normandy for the Fourth of July.
“We are very excited about this opportunity,” Downs said. “The Georgia International Honor Band tours every other year and being selected to the band is a great honor for those students selected.”
The International Honor band is composed of 30 students from schools throughout the state. “These three students were chosen because they had received different honors and awards, and they were great examples for the other students,” Downs said. “I polled the students to see who had been out of the country,” Downs said. “Glenn and Shay-Leigh both transferred from schools with larger programs, and had played at Disneyland, and other places in the U.S., but all three had not been out of the country.
The students will leave on June 27 to travel to Atlanta for a band rehearsal, before flying to London the following day.
