San Antonio, Texas — The telephone rang early Wednesday morning in the offices of the newsroom at the Times-Recorder.
“Yes, I wanted to talk to someone about the article you had on the soldier in today’s newspaper.”
The caller identified himself as Tech Sgt. Bobby Dallis (Hank) Hollis. “I was wondering where that information was obtained from.”
After a little research, it was discovered that the information was possibly submitted in handwritten form — by a proud family member.
“There is some incorrect information,” said Hollis.
Appreciative of the attention, Hollis wanted to really make it clear that he really didn’t like the attention but he felt like some information needed to be corrected.
The Times-Recorder strives to present the best quality product for all the readers and hopes to present accurate and correct information. If the mistakes are the newspapers or even if the mistakes aren’t, if a correction is to be made, we will present it. With that in mind ,Tech Sgt. Hollis agreed to a rewrite, reluctantly.
“First of all, I am not trying to tell you how to do your job or anything, but it states in the second paragraph that I graduated in 19, and then there is nothing there. I graduated in 1989, and I attended Georgia Southwestern before I entered the Air Force.”
He continued, “Secondly, my rank is Tech Sgt, not as you have it listed. And I have four children, not five.”
Hollis is married to the former Julie Bailey of Ellaville. His parents are Steve Hollis, and Donna Hollis Lawrence of Americus. He has four children, Meagan, Austin, Isabella and Elijah with Isabella and Elijah being twins.
Hollis has been in the Air Force for over 13 years, with 10 of those being active.
It was stated in the previous article that his united had served in five wars, and according to Hollis, “That is not so.”
Hollis was not interviewed prior to the the phone interview on Wednesday morning for the newspaper, so the quotes from him, he is not sure where they came from.
His family does have a long history of military serve beginning with his great grandfather at the Argonne Forst in France during World War II. His grandfather did serve on Omaha Beach at the D. Day battle in 1944, and his father did “come through the Vietnam era.”
The mailing address that was given in the newspaper was incorrect. If anyone would like to get in touch with Hollis, they can do so through his mother or father. The Americus Times-Recorder regrets the errors that were made in the article that was published on Wednesday, July 8, and appreciates the opportunity to provide our readers with the accurate information.
