Stripling’s celebrates 45th anniversary
CORDELE — Stripling’s is invited folks to join them Saturday, at Stripling’s General Store on Ga. Highway 300 in Cordele. where they will host “a good ol’ southern barbecue” as part of their 45th anniversary celebration.
It all started in 1964, when James Stripling had one thing on his mind and that was making sausage to share with his family and friends. It didn’t take long for word to spread and Stripling’s Sausage Kitchen was put on the map. That was 45 years ago and not much has changed at least not as far as that famous sausage is concerned.
“Our sausage is a unique, original product on which we have built a successful business,” said company spokesman Ashley Goss. “It is the backbone of Stripling’s operations. Our hot hog country sausage was formulated around or before 1964. The recipe for the sausage has not changed since that time. Our reputation, our brand recognition, our business has been built around this single product. We are extremely proud of it!”
While the sausage recipe hasn’t changed, the method for delivering it has. In addition to the growing mail order business handled in Moultrie, Stripling’s has two retail outlets in Cordele. The three together handle more than 300,000 lbs. of sausage a year.
Stripling’s averages around 40-45 employees with five of those being family members.
“Our employees are the most important part of our business,” comments owner, Ricky Hardin. “Without their constant dedication to customer service and a true feeling of responsibility towards our company, Stripling’s General Store would not be what it is today. Many of our employees have been with us a long time — some of them since we had the little place down on the farm. They are family to us.
“We are looking forward to a day filled with fun and excitement. We hope we are able to give the customers a time they can come and enjoy. We appreciate their business and support throughout the years,” says Hardin.
Stripling’s General Store ‘s 45th Anniversary is celebrated from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday with free samples and giveaways, including a whole roasted pig and $50 Chevron gas cards. Bring the whole family for $5 lunches featuring Stripling’s famous barbecue sandwiches, sausage dogs, and ribs. Flint River Marine will be there, showcasing boats for fishing and family fun.
