AMERICUS — AMERICUS — Three and a half jobs will be created in Americus, initially partly funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The Joint Development Authority (JDA) for Sumter, Macon and Schley counties unanimously approved on Friday to allow Robin Chandler-Morgan to open an optometry office in After Hours Care office on Forsyth Street.
Chandler-Morgan went to the River Valley Regional Commission (RVRC) for help to begin a small business, and RVRC Assistant Executive Director Sarah Walls accepted her proposal.
The JDA approved the Commission to give Walls a $50,000 grant, which is part of $99,999 the USDA gave to the Commission to create new jobs in the area.
Also, Macon County will turn 120 acres on Ga. Highway 49 into an industrial park soon.
The industrial park in Montezuma has eight acres left on which to develop, so County commissioners in Macon County saw a need for more space.
The JDA unanimously approved the proposal Friday. The Macon County Board of Commissioners will fund the project, which has rail access and water and sewer plug ins.
