Don’t be alarmed; the guns are legal
Gun rights advocacy group to Adopt a Mile in Schley
ELLAVILLE — If you’re driving on U.S. Highway 19 South in Schley County on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 19, don’t be alarmed when you see people bearing guns or other firearms picking up trash alongside the roadway. They will be members of GeorgiaCarry.org, the premier gun rights advocacy group in the state, and they will be picking up the litter left behind by others.
Robert Kite, the Schley County Adopt a Mile organizer, said the group plans to meet a 7 a.m. Sept. 19 for breakfast at the Lil Red Barn in Ellaville. Then, sometime around 8:30 a.m., the group will being picking up trash along Highway 19 near the Schley-Sumter county line. Kite said, depending on how many volunteers show up, the trash pickup could be completed within two to three hours.
After that, the group will head for Americus for a luncheon meeting at Ryan’s Family Steakhouse on East Lamar Street. Kite said that John Monks, a Libertarian gubernatorial candidate, has tentatively accepted the group’s invitation to speak at the meeting. “He may or not may not come,” Kite said, “but we will have a speaker.”
Kite says the group is seeking volunteers for the Adopt a Mile day, and that the group has signed up with the Georgia Department of Transportation for seven more trash pickups over the next two years, as required.
Besides making the landscape cleaner and more attractive, Kite said the group’s intent is to focus on Second Amendment rights. “Our goal is to let people see other people carrying firearms safely (and lawfully) and in an nonviolent manner.”
According to GeorgiaCarry.org, the organization is a “no-compromise voice for gun owners.”
The site says, “GCO believes that citizens of Georgia and the United States have the right to own and carry the firearm of their choice for any reason other than to commit a crime. GCO works tirelessly to ensure that the rights of gun owners are not compromised by the Georgia General Assembly and local officials.”
The Website contains information on various legal actions involving firearms, and allows for comments.
