ELLAVILLE —
A skunk killed in the Candy Cane Lane area of rural Schley County tested positive for rabies at the Albany Regional Laboratory, according to a press release from the Sumter County Health Department’s Environmental Health Services Office.
Health officials urge the public to take precautions to reduce their risk of exposure by keeping their pets vaccinated, reporting strays to animal control, teaching their children to never handle unfamiliar animals even they appear friendly, washing an animal bite with soap and water and seeking medical attention immediately, and if you see a wild animal behaving strangely, report it animal control immediately
