AMERICUS —
If you need to sharpen your computer skills, or even if you have no such skills, there is hope on the horizon.
The Middle Flint Area Council on Aging (COA) and Fort Valley State University (FVSU) are offering free computer training from 10 a.m.-noon Feb. 1-3 and free job search training from 1-3 p.m. the same days at the Council on Aging Office, 127 Ga. Highway 27 East.
Tracy Ector, care coordinator with the Middle Flint COA, says the free training will be held in FVSU’s Mobile Information Technology Center, which will be located at Middle Flint COA for a few days.
While this free training is aimed specifically at people involved in the Experience Works program, it open to anyone, according to Ector.
Experience Works, according to its website, “helps low-income seniors, with multiple barriers to employment, get the training they need to find good jobs in their local communities.”
Ector says this is the first time the Middle Flint COA has hosted the program.
“Experience Works people benefit the most from it,” she said. “They are put into the job market, and through Experience Works, they find a temporary job. This program teaches them computer skills and also how to do a job search online.”
The classes are scheduled so that participants can take part in the computer class in the morning, and then devote the afternoon to job searches.
Ector said classes are limited to 20 each and the first day is already filled; however, she said there are spaces available in the second- and third-day classes.
Those who wish to participate can call Ector at the Middle Flint COA at 928-2126.
