MONTEZUMA — Montezuma United Methodist Church invites everyone to bring the whole family for a musical treat at 5 p.m. Jan. 24 when the voices of State Line Grocery, an internationally acclaimed barbershop quartet, give a free concert. The event is supported in part by the Grassroots Arts Program of the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriation of the Georgia General Assembly and in partnership with the Friends of the Rylander.
State Line Grocery was formed in July 2003, and won the Dixie District Quartet Championship in the fall of that same year. They have earned the right to compete every year since in the Barbershop Harmony Society International Competition, winning third or fourth place in all three of the last three years.
Tim Brooks sings lead for the quartet. He is the past director of the Stone Mountain Barbershop Chorus, and is also a certified Singing Judge in the Barbershop Harmony Society’s contest and judging program. Brooks’ versatile voice has served in several quartets, singing lead, tenor and baritone. Tenor Dylan Oxford has served in several quartets, singing three different parts. He is an active member of the Stone Mountain Chorus. Bass singer Drew McMillan holds a degree in voice from University of South Carolina, is a music educator, voice coach and performer. He is currently the director of the Stone Mountain Chorus. Mark Lamback joined the group as baritone in 2005. He has both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in music and is a full-time music educator.
