AMERICUS —
The City of Americus has received notice from the Insurance Services Organization that the ISO fire rating for property owners within the city of Americus will go from a rating of 3 to a rating of 2. There are only a few cities in the United States that have a rating of 1 or 2.
The Insurance Services Organization performs inspections and rates every fire department in the United States. The ratings range from a 9 to a 1. With a rating of 1 being the best you can get. The city was analyzed based on the personnel, equipment, and record keeping within the Fire Department; the city’s water system, and the dispatching system provided by Middle Flint Regional E911 Center.
What does this mean for the citizens and property owners inside the city of Americus? Every insurance company uses the ISO rating to calculate the property insurance. The reduction in the ISO rating should mean a reduction in your property insurance premium.
Mayor Blount expressed his appreciation to Chief Allen Erkhart, of the Americus Fire and Emergency Services and staff and to public works director, Bernard Kendrick and his staff for a job well done.
