To be eligible for the Academic Achievement List, a student must previously earn at least 15 credit hours at GSW, be enrolled in 3 to 14 hours of courses, and earn a 3.5 or higher GPA.

Fire at Star Racing
Serendipity and quick response time were paramount in the successful eradication of a fire at Star Racing on Crisp Drive, off Southerfield Road early Wednesday.
According to Sumter County Fire Chief Ekaitis, the department received a call at 3:09 a.m. Wednesday of a fire at Star Racing involving an RV parked next to the main building. -
Bundle of joy
Logan Brady Garcia was born Tuesday, May 15, and weighed in at 11 pounds, 7 ounces and 23 inches long. Sources at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center said he is by far the largest baby born at the new hospital and is the largest baby to be born in Americus in a very long time.

SGTC’s Cara Harrell honored as finalist for the 2012 TCSG Instructor of the Year
Cara Harrell, a general education math instructor at South Georgia Technical College (SGTC), was named as one of six finalists for the Technical College System of Georgia’s 2012 Instructor of the Year. Kerry Beaver, SGTC’s 2012 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) winner was also honored at the Technical College System of the Year awards banquet.

Temporary exhibit opens at Andersonville National Historic Site
A new temporary exhibit “We Can Forgive But Never Forget” is on display at the Prisoner of War Museum at Andersonville National Historic Site. This exhibit coincides with the 70th Anniversary of the fall of the Philippines. The objects displayed are from prisoners held by the Japanese during World War II who fought on Bataan and Corregidor.
