SALINA, Kan. — No. 2 Gulf Coast proved to be way too much for South Georgia Tech on Tuesday.
The Lady Jets shot 27 percent and fell behind 53-22 at the half en route to a 79-53 defeat in the opening round of the NJCAA Tournament.
SGTC (29-6) entered as the No. 15 seed while Gulf Coast (29-1) was seeded second.
Monique Willis led SGTC with 15 points and 16 rebounds, and Ophelia McMath scored 14. GJCAA Player of the Year Dee Smith was held scoreless in the first half and finished with five points on 2 of 14 shooting.
SGTC Tech shot 27 percent in the first half and allowed more points in the first half (52) than they have all season for a game (49.3).
The Lady Jets will play No. 7 seed North Idaho at 10 a.m. Thursday in the loser's bracket.
