New staff writer to start full-time at Times-Recorder

AMERICUS — The Americus Times-Recorder will welcome a new, full-time staff writer on March 22, but he is no stranger to the newsroom or to the community.

Keven Gilbert, who has served as the newspaper’s news clerk since November 2009, is enthusiastic about his new position.

“I’m looking forward to getting out and seeing more of the community and meeting more people, and filling the pages with their stories,” Gilbert said. “I’m glad to be here in Americus; it’s a place I’ve always seen myself staying for awhile and I think I will be here for the long haul. I’ve enjoyed learning a new craft by writing at the Times-Recorder, and I hope to get better every day.”

Gilbert was born and reared in Cordele, and graduated from Crisp County High School. He graduated from Georgia Southwestern State University in 2002, with a degree in English.

Of Gilbert, Beth Alston, executive editor, said, “Keven is a talented writer, and has a way with words that is both appealing and informative to the reader. He has quickly picked up on the intricacies of governmental reporting and is able to sift through complex matter and communicate it clearly to the readers. I’m looking forward to continuing to mentor him in his career, and look forward to seeing him meet new challenges. I consider him an asset to this news organization and to the community.”

Gilbert replaces Robert Griffin, who has been a staff writer for the Times-Recorder since March 2009. Griffin is leaving to further his career in journalism elsewhere.
