The invitational featured teams from all over the state, with 11 level two teams, 14 level three teams and 12 level four teams. SCGA did not place as a team, but were able to take home 63 individual awards for their performance at the meet.

For the level fours, Sydney Copeland brought home a first place medal in the floor exercise with a score of 9.25 and Whitney Parker placed third overall in the competition. High scores from the level threes at the competition were Ashleigh Estes with a 9.0 on floor exercise, Anna Davis with a 9.25 on Beam and Rene Rix, a level two, with a 9.0 on vault.

Those who competed in level two team were Haleigh Askew, McKenzie Bailey, Alli Dent, Kelli Hill, Elizabeth Law, Rene Rix, Passion Thomas and Brookland Weaver.

“We were very proud of our whole team,” said Melissa Moore, coordinator for SCGA. “Our level two’s did very well for the first meet that they have been to, and I’m proud to say that none of them fell off the beam!”

In their first meet as a team, at Dream It gymnastics in Tifton, the team took third place overall.

Next on the schedule for the level fours of SCGA is the state meet that will be held in Duluth this weekend. The level two and level three state meet will be held in April.

Also in gymnastics news, the spring quarter for classes will start on Monday, with 210 children participating in the classes. According to Moore, there are still a few spots available for those interested. For more information, contact the Sumter County Parks and Recreation Department at 924-4878.
