AMERICUS — On Tuesday, United Way of Sumter County, in conjunction with United Way of Southwest Georgia, held a meeting with its partner programs to inform them of a United Way merger. United Way of Sumter County is now a division of the United Way of Southwest Georgia, based in Albany.
The Chairman Larry Jackson of Phoebe Sumter assured the partner agencies and community that the money raised in Sumter would stay in the county. There will be a seven percent administration cost for pledge processing, print material and other administrative costs. The local Sumter Advisory Board members include Chairman Larry Jackson, Vice Chairman Mark Minick, Campaign Chairman Joan Mason, Terry Barry, Tracy Ector, Kathy Green, Dennis McMahon, Emory Parker, Ginger Perkins, Janet Siders, Angela Westra, Kim Whitt and Area Director Sheila Parks. This advisory board will be responsible for the distribution of the funds raised in Sumter County to advance United Way’s community impact agenda, which focuses on preparing children and youth to succeed, empowering families and individuals toward self-sufficiency, meeting basic needs and promoting health and wellness.
United Way’s mission is to improve people’s lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities in Southwest Georgia. The money raised in Sumter County will be used to invest in sustainable community change. United Way encourages “only every” to give, advocate and volunteer.
