AMERICUS — Carolyn Sales works into a blur at Goodyear Tire King USA, located on North Lee Street in Americus. She moves with the grace of a pro figure skater, strolling back and forth, punching information into a computer, filling out quotes on car repairs and occasionally popping her head into the service bay to check on the status of a customer’s vehicle.
“I do a little bit of everything,” Sales says with a hearty laugh. Sales and her husband have been running the operation at Tire King since 2005, and it is a job that, while hectic at times, she loves doing. “I was kind of drafted into this job,” Sales said. “We bought the business in 2005, and have been doing the job ever since.”
Most of the time, when people meet Sales, they meet her in a time of need. It could be a wide variety of different needs, such as new tires, a simple oil change or even to check on that pesky ‘check engine’ light that keeps coming on every time they start up their vehicle. It’s times like these, when she gets to meet and interact with customers, that Sales says is her favorite part of the job. “I guess I am a people person,” Sales said. “I love talking to people and getting to know the different folks around the community.”
As she skips around behind the counter again, trying to find a part for a customer, Sales keeps the motto that she tries to model her life by constantly in the forefront of her mind. “I try to live by the Golden Rule, and treat people as I want to be treated,” Sales said. In a business like those of vehicle repair, it’s a trait that is hard to find these days.
