AMERICUS — The following health inspections were recently conducted by the Environmental Health Services Office, Sumter County Health Department.
• Wendy’s, 1202 Crawford St., Americus — Jan. 23 — routine — score: 91 A — inspected by Megan Kirksey
— Handwash sink at front counter near door has no paper towels. Towels are needed at all times.
— Lettuce and cucumbers not covered in walk-in cooler. These need to be covered to prevent contamination.
— Cups in storage area outside not stored 6 in. off floor.
• Council Services, 112 Industrial Blvd., Americus — Jan. 26 — routine — score: 84 B — inspected by Kirksey
— Slaw in walk-in cooler held past seven days. Potentially hazardous foods should only be held for seven days and discarded.
— Observed employee preparing raw hamburger meat with gloves on and then begin working with cooked hamburger meat without washing hands. Employee changed gloves but needs a hand-wash step between.
— Observed several wet wiping cloths not stored in sanitizer solution. Wet wiping cloths should be stored in sanitizer between uses.
• Main Moon, 101 Prince St., Americus — Jan. 27 — routine — score: 66 U — inspected by Jane Arnold and Kirksey.
— Employee washed hands but did not use soap.
— Employee chopped vegetables without gloves on hands.
— Open coffee cup in prep area; can only have cup with lid/straw.
— Food not covered in freezers and refrigerators.
— Improper method used to clean dining tables.
— Improper date marking on foods held over 24 hours.
— Improper thawing of chicken; chicken observed thawing on counter.
— Potatoes, fish and oil stored on floor in back storage area. Need to be 6 in. off floor. Also food needs to be stored in food-approved bags, not Wal-Mart bags.
— Wet wiping cloths not stored in sanitizer solution between uses.
— Scoops should be provided to scoop sugar and rice. Also handles of scoops should be stored with handles up.
— Boxes used to cover cooler floor need to be removed so cooler floor can be cleaned.
* All sink faucets need to be fixed to keep from leaking. Also fix leaking pipe under three-compartment sink.
• Churches Fried Chicken, 1322 E. Lamar St., Americus — Jan. 25 — routine — score: 87 B — inspected by Arnold
— Corn in hot hold cabinet at 109 degrees F.; needs to be held at 135 degrees F. or hotter.
— Lettuce, cheese, pickles at 60 degrees F. in small prep cooler; cooler not holding temperature of 41 degrees F. or less.
— Thermometer in front freezer broken (reading 40 degrees; temperature was 25 degrees F.).
— Test strips needed at three-compartment sink to check sanitizer.
• Magnolia Manor Retirement Center, 2001 S. Lee St., Americus — Jan. 26 — routine — score: 88 B — inspected by Arnold
— Potentially hazardous foods (carrots) not hot held at 135 degrees F. or hotter.
— Bacon bits, raisins not properly shielded on salad bar; ice needs to be covered/shielded on self-service.
— Sanitizer level in wiping cloth bucket was too strong (more than 200 ppm).
