New pet grooming business opens in Americus

AMERICUS — On Saturday morning the Battle Animal Grooming Facility held its official grand opening. Open since June 14, this niche business is the concept of Jacob Battle Jr., an Americus native who now practices veterinary medicine in Columbia, S.C.

Battle, who owns the property at 915 N. Jackson St., said that he wanted to put a business in the vacant space which once housed an insurance office and beauty salon. As a veterinarian, Battle knows the importance of cleanliness to the health of pets and their owners. “We came up with the idea to turn the building into a grooming facility because we wanted to provide the service of helping to keep pets flea-free,” Battle said. He says that Battle Animal Grooming Facility’s services consist of bathing, clipping, trimming toe nails and cleaning ears. Though boarding is not permitted due to a City ordinance, the facility will allow owners to drop off pets for the duration of the day. Battle says that calling ahead and making a appointment is necessary.

Brenda Allen is in charge of all of the pet grooming duties at the Battle Animal Grooming Facility. She says that right now her focus is getting the word out in the community about the services that this business provides, especially the “doggy day care” feature. “We have a roaming area and we are working on a privacy fence and a wading pool,” Allen said.

“We want to take care of people’s pets, especially those who may not have time to properly care for them,” She said. Allen says that certain problems that pet owners have is not knowing how to property clip their dog’s toenails or having pets with anxiety issues that cannot be left alone.

The Battle Animal Grooming Facility’s hours of operation are from 7:30 a.m.-noon and 2-6:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Grooming prices start at $20 for small dogs 25 pounds or less. Larger dogs, weighing 26-50 pounds, cost $25-$35 pounds and 50 pounds or over cost $30-$45. To make an appointment call 928-5507.
