ELLAVILLE — Voters in Schley County narrowly defeated the TSPLOST with 361 yes votes to 367 no.
Incumbent David Byrd Sr. will face Republican Tommy Pilcher in the November election after winning his at-large seat on the Schley County Board of Education Tuesday with 286 votes to Walt Vasil's 170.
In the District 3 contest for the Schley County Boars of Education, incumbent Maria Cloer with keep her seat after garnishing 49 votes to Bill Ewing's 38.

The Home Run to be held in Jay Williams’ memory
Jay Williams, of Plains, was an outdoor type of guy, enjoying activities such as running and bicycling. He was also a spiritual man and enjoyed sharing his faith with others. When he died after a falling accident in June 2012, his friends really missed him. Two of those friends, Travis Kelly and Rebecca Ferguson, decided to carry out a race event that Williams had planned, to benefit the Methodist Youth Home in Americus.
