Marion County —
A Box Springs man was killed Monday in a traffic accident in rural northeast Marion County.
According to Trooper Garry Greene of Georgia State Patrol Post 10, Americus, who worked the accident, Stephen Lynn Olliff, 53, of Box Springs, was driving a motorcycle east on Fort Perry Road at 6:10 p.m. Behind Olliff was a Chevrolet Blazer driven by Mallory Dawn Mock, 17, of Mauk.
The trooper said that Mock failed to notice that the motorcycle had slowed to turn right onto Saddle Trail and struck the motorcycle from behind. Greene said the motorcycle landed on its left side in the south shoulder of the roadway and Olliff landed beside it. When Mock approached Olliff and got no response, she summoned help.
Greene said he arrived on the scene at 6:46 p.m. and Marion County Coroner Herbert Tante arrived and pronounced Olliff dead at the scene. The trooper said that when 911 was notified, CPR was administered at Mock is charged with following too closely, and Greene says other charges are pending.
