AMERICUS — Large supportive crowd attends eighth grade

graduation of Sumter County Middle School

Before an excited and filled Jets Gym at South Georgia Technical College, the celebration of success for Sumter County Schools' students continued with the "Promise to Graduate" Ceremony by the 8th graders of Sumter County Middle School (SCMS). The theme for the event was, "I Promise to Learn Each Day and Graduate Empowered." The carefully planned program began with the processional of the eighth graders, the graduating class of 2016.

The eighth grade students at Sumter County Middle School have shown they enjoy success. Like all of us, these students will be challenged in today's society. As we salute these students, please join me in congratulatory approval of their deeds and their 'Promise to Graduate,'" remarked Principal Kimothy Hadley.

James Beckett led the gathering in an invocation. Afterwards, reflections of the successes of the academic year were presented by students, Alma Lepiz and Morgan Cloutier. SCMS Media Center Director, Jill Cochran, then introduced the guest speak for the occasion, Interim Superintendent, Donnie Smith. Smith continued the theme of excellence in his talk; "Dare to lead others. As you continue your walk in education, become a leader as a student and continue as an adult. Encourage your friends and others to graduate. I hope to cheer at your graduation in 2016,"shared Smith. Another celebration of the affair were presented by the Men of Destiny and the eighth grade Interpretive dancers.

Assistant Principal, Matthew Cullifer, continued the awards ceremony as he presented the STAR Teacher and Student Awards. The eighth grade graduates were then presented to the packed gymnasium by Alisha Evans and Claire Williams. Sherri Nance presented the Superlative Awards to students.

Before the closing remarks by Principal Kimothy Hadley, the ceremonial graduation gown was presented. The orderly procession began and continued as students exited the building. "Each year, we are impressed with the success of our students. Their order and public presentation deserves recognition," said Hadley.
