The Clubhouse: Boutique shopping in downtown Montezuma

MONTEZUMA — A fun, new shopping opportunity has opened in the Old Women’s Clubhouse on Engram Street. An eclectic collection of vendors offers gifts, fashions, antiques, home accessories, gourmet food and salon services.

The shop is located in the historic Women’s Clubhouse which was the former home of many Montezuma social and civic clubs. The charming wood frame bungalow features large craftsman-style windows, polished hardwood floors and classic architectural molding and trim.

A grand opening celebration was held on Feb. 1. The Clubhouse is open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays.

Proprietor Joy Rawls opened the shop “to create an enjoyable boutique environment where customers can shop and socialize in a relaxing atmosphere.”

She wanted to be a part of Montezuma’s downtown revitalization and to attract destination shopping customers to the area.

“The Clubhouse is a mini-Maze,” she explains, referring to the vendor emporium in downtown Americus.

Her daughter advised her “not to buy anything I wouldn’t wear.”

The shop is “nice because you don’t have to go out of town for a boutique experience.”
