AMERICUS —
The Sumter Humane Society (SHS) finds itself inundated by unwanted, abandoned or surrendered animals on a daily basis, but the spring and summer months are especially burdensome as more and more puppies and kittens are brought in. The animal shelter, located on Industrial Boulevard, is at almost capacity and in dire need of supplies.
SHS officials are again holding a fundraiser, on Saturday, with the Cram the Van event from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Farmer’s Seed and Feed on North Hampton St., Americus.
Participants are asked to drop by, make a donation of supplies and/or a monetary donation.
The SHS’s wish list includes Equine Pine, water buckets, cat carriers, all sizes of crates (large and extra large needed most), stainless bowls in assorted sizes, Ivomec (both sizes), large Capstar, Adam’s Flea Spray, assorted sized dog houses, hose nozzles, double snap hooks, 17-gallon washtub, large multi-purpose buckets and of course, monetary donations to purchase larger items that are much needed.
Weather permitting, there will also be several adoptable animals to choose from.
Amber Manning, SHS shelter director, said, “This is our third annual fundraiser at Farmer's Seed and Feed. We get so much support from so many local businesses, and Farmer's is no exception. In fact, they are one of our biggest supporters! Everything on our wish list is available at Farmer's, and they give anyone purchasing items from our wish list a discount! While dog and cat food are always appreciated, we currently have corporate sponsorship for food, and we wanted to take this opportunity to procure some of the other items that we so desperately need. Please come out and support the Sumter Humane Society. You may just find your new best friend!”
If you can’t attend the event, Farmer’s is currently accepting monetary donation to help purchase items for the SHS’s wish list. The idea is cram the shelter’s van full of much needed supplies, and perhaps adopt a pet.
