$25K win sparks thrills for Schley County welder

ATLANTA — A Schley County welder has plugged a prize from the Georgia Lottery. Charles Jenkins III of Ellaville has won a $25,000 playing the instant game $ Ticket.

Jenkins, 38, claimed his prize Thursday at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Columbus. According to Jenkins, he and his brother routinely stop in the mornings for breakfast pizzas before work. With his brother, Jenkins purchased the instant ticket at Chevron Food Mart #3, Highway 19 S. in Ellaville, along with breakfast. He scratched it in his vehicle. “We just decided to buy one and got lucky,” Jenkins said. “I looked at him, and he looked at me, then we both asked each other, ‘Is this real?’”

The lucky winner said that he and his brother “hollered” once the winnings were confirmed inside of the store. “Other people were shocked, too, and they were happy for us,” he said.

Jenkins intends to use his winnings to assist his brother financially.

$ Ticket is an instant game loaded with prizes of up to $250,000.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
