‘Dixie’s High Point of Beauty’ premiering soon at Americus’ Rylander Theater
AMERICUS — “Dixie's High Point of Beauty" premieres Feb. 6 at the Rylander Theatre, downtown. The small town of Jolene, is all abuzz about hometown boy Creighton Alexander’s nuptials to a highly pretentious “Pamela-not Pam” of a well-to-do Birmingham family. Buzz Central is Dixie’s High Point of Beauty hair salon. From the president of the Magnolia Garden Club to “Lucky,” the triple-threat cosmetologist, wedding director and pageant coach, the whole town is ensnared in the twists and tangles of old flames, late-night happenings at Franjelica’s bar and salon gossip.
The new musical was written by Alicia Croxton with a majority of music written by her husband, Richland native Huff Croxton. Alicia is the founder and director of Act Up! Junior Theatre and although this show isn’t for children, it is a fundraiser which will benefit the next production of the children’s theater, “Children’s Letters to God.”
The production showcases the talents of a cast of 16, including Americus native Sheila Phillips who portrays Dixie, owner of the High Point of Beauty hair salon. Ellaville native, Blair Erskine, portrays high society girl “MarLynn.” Keeping it in the family, Alicia, Huff, Tag and Amy Croxton all have roles in the show along with Theatre Albany regulars Francie Michas and Chet Dreschel. Come join the cast for a hilarious ride through the trials and tribulations of small town meets uptown. Tickets are $10 general admission, and the shows are one day only, Feb. 6 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Historic Rylander Theatre. For tickets or more information call 931-0001.
