AMERICUS —
The Americus/Sumter County Arts Council is currently scheduling visual artists to participate in its annual Arts in the Park.
Taking place from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 at Rees Park, area artists are encouraged to display and sell their art in an allotted 10’ x 10’ space offered by the Arts Council at no charge.
“This has become a wonderful tradition for Americus and the surrounding communities,” said Anne Thomas, chair of the Americus-Sumter Arts Council. “It’s a great opportunity for children and families to be exposed to a variety of art and entertainment.”
In addition to professional artists, the family-oriented arts festival will include local musicians, food vendors and a display of approximately 400 children’s entries from area schools.
Already slated to perform in this years’ event are the Sumter Players, Magician Mike Fuller, stiltwalker Ron Dinwiddie and the Americus High and Georgia Southwestern State University singers.
Jeff Williams, the official artist for the 2009 Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks and recent inductee into “The Walk of Fame” in front of the Historic Rylander Theatre, will be displaying his art at the event as well.
“I like to inspire the way I was inspired by my art teachers (in Americus),” said Williams. “By showing you can do something with your art, professionally, means anything is still possible.”
There is no charge to participate in or attend the event.
Artists interested are asked to contact Tonia Hughes at 229-931-2209 or phototonia@yahoo.com.
