Super Cruise-In is Saturday

AMERICUS — The Sumter County Georgia Street Rod Association (GSRA) hosts a “Super Cruise-In” from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Rylander Park, downtown.

The car show features classic, vintage and unique cars and trucks. The Sumter County GSRA hopes the event will do its part to bring attention to the positive aspects of downtown and spark interest in the GSRA.

Buddy Hollomon of the Sumter County GSRA said the group currently has about 90 members, and is a way to fellowship with other car enthusiasts. The group has been working with the City of Americus in preparation of the Super Cruise-In.

“Some people enjoy fishing or playing golf; we enjoy automobiles,” said Hollomon. He has reached out to car aficionados throughout the southern part of the state.

Since forming in 1977, the GSRA has successfully lobbied for license tags with an antique-car designation, lowered insurance rates, and regularly approaches the state General Assembly with car-collector concerns, Hollomon says.

By increasing its visibility throughout South Georgia, with representatives scheduled to participate in the Super Cruise-In, the association raises awareness of its issues, its membership possibilities, as well as the fun of participating in the world of street rods and vintage vehicles.

GSRA celebrates the fun of these vehicles by offering the public the opportunity to see classic cars from Sumter County and surrounding areas as well as cars which may travel from other parts of the state.

In addition to the City of Americus, sponsors for the Super Cruise-In include Carl Gregory, Rob Doll, Snider Chevrolet and Sunbelt Ford. Call Hollomon at 931-0550 for more information.
