Two injured in rural traffic crash

AMERICUS — Two people were seriously injured in a car crash Wednesday night on Bob Dodson Road in rural Sumter County. The accident was investigated by the Georgia State Patrol Post 10, which was called at 1:21 a.m.

According to the accident report, Angela Adams Strickland, 31, of 363 Wiggins Lane, Ellaville, driving a 1998 Ford Explorer SUV, was traveling north and while attempting to negotiate a curve, lost control of the vehicle. The SUV traveled off the east shoulder approximately 201 ft. along the shoulder before traveling back onto the roadway. The driver overcorrected and the SUV overturned several times, ejecting the driver. The SUV finally came to rest on its left side, facing east.

Strickland and a passenger, Nazareth Jackson, 31, of 117 Sharon Circle, Americus were both injured and taken to Sumter Regional East by Sumter EMS. The Americus Fire & Emergency Services was called to scene to extricate Jackson from the wreckage.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Strickland was listed as in serious but stable condition. Jackson had been airlifted to a Columbus hospital.

Strickland is charged with failure to maintain lane, seat belt violation, no proof of insurance and DUI (pending).
