2 stolen semis recovered

AMERICUS — Two semi trucks, stolen from Sumter County, have been recovered.

According to Sumter County Sheriff Pete Smith, the trucks — a 1999 Century Freightliner and a 1998 Peterbilt — valued at $25,000 each, were reported stolen from Dixie Lix Industries in Cobb on May 2.

The sheriff said the Peterbilt was recovered on May 19 in Dublin, and the Freightliner was recovered Monday in Eastman. The driver of the Freightliner, arrested by the Eastman Police Department, is charged with theft by receiving stolen property.

While the case remains under investigation, the sheriff said his office appreciates the assistance of outside agencies, citizens and the trucks’ owners, Bobby Duke and Alan Ford, in the recovery of the trucks.
