AMERICUS — There have been no changes in polling places for the July 15th General Primary election, said Sherry Ratliff, Sumter County Elections superintendent.
“They will be the same polling places from the Presidential Preference Primary,” Ratliff said. This includes the temporary polling places.
For voters in Plains, the polling place is the building behind City Hall. Voters in the Thompson Precinct will vote at the volunteer fire station at the intersection of Ga. Highways 49 and 308, Ratliff said.
Leslie voters will vote at the Civic Center, and Chambliss voters will go to the building on Upper River Road near the intersection of Jury Clark Road. Voters in Andersonville will vote at City Hall/Fire Station, Ratliff said. The facility at the corner of Ga. Highway 30 West and Joe Buchanan Road is the polling place for voters in Concord.
Other county polling places include the Agricultural Center on U.S. Highway 19 South and Souther Field Airport off Ga. Highway 49 North.
Depending on where they live, residents of the city will vote at either the Public Safety Building on South Lee Street, which continues to be a temporary polling place; the Sumter County Parks and Recreation Department on Rucker Street, or the Georgia Southwestern Golf & Conference Center.
Ratliff said hopefully, voters who would vote at the Public Safety Complex will vote at the Rees Park Economic Development Center in the November General Election.
Voters should check their voter identification cards for polling places, or call the Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office at 928-4580.
Ratliff said advanced voting has been “steady” this week. Advanced voting is from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, and from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. today and Thursday.
Voters can either vote advanced, for which they do not have a reason, or they can vote in-house absentee, for which they need a reason.
“They must have a photo ID,” Ratliff said. “If they do not have a photo ID, they can vote provisional, but they have two days to either bring me their ID or have one made.”
Ratliff said her office has the equipment to make photo identification cards, if voters do not have either a Georgia driver’s license, or a Georgia identification card, issued by the state Department of Driver Services.
All of the candidates who qualified in April will be on the July 15 ballot, Ratliff explained. However, the only candidates actually running against each other will be those who are of the same party.
Voters will need to choose a party, when they vote in the July 15 election; however, they will not have to choose the same party they chose in February’s Presidential Preference Primary, Ratliff said.
For more information, call the Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office at 928-4580. The office is located in the Sumter County Courthouse.
