WFXL Fox 31 to test DTV transition

Briefly shutting down analog signal

ALBANY — WFXL Fox 31, Southwest Georgia’s Fox affiliate, will conduct a DTV test for viewers between 6:40 and 7 p.m. today. To prepare viewers for the digital transition, Fox 31 News at 6:30 is set to flip the switch on the UHF signal to broadcast the appropriate steps to receive a digital signal and avoid signal interruption. Viewers prepared for the digital transition will see no programming interruption and will not be affected by the DTV test.

Television stations nationwide are under a mandate to switch from the method of transmitting TV signals known as analog, used since the 1940s, to digital television (DTV). Fox 31 is and has been transmitting both analog and digital signals; however, by law, all analog transmissions are to cease on Feb, 17, 2009.

DTV is an innovative new type of broadcasting technology that delivers movie-quality pictures and sound, more channels, and even high definition television (HDTV) to consumers with HD television sets. While the benefits of DTV are remarkable, millions of households risk losing television reception unless they take the easy steps to receive a digital signal.

Jenny Collins, Fox 31’s vice president and general manager, says “It is our goal to provide viewers with a clear understanding of any adjustments they may need to make before the DTV conversion in February 2009.”

If you have any questions concerning the FOX 31 broadcast signal, call Fox 31 at 229-435-3100.
