ANDERSONVILLE — One of the area’s unique and historic communities, Andersonville, plays host to its annual Andersonville Historic Fair on Oct. 4 and 5.

Cynthia StormCaller, tourism director/museum curator, said, “This will be our 33rd fair, and we have planned all kind of activities. Peggy Sheppard is handling the vendors and I have the food exhibits, but together we see a great event.”

The Fair, according to StormCaller, “is just a big fundraiser for the Andersonville Guild, the town’s historical society, where we promote economic development through tourism and historical preservation through education.”

StormCaller said, “Over 10,000 people come each year to the event.”

Special vendors will be Fred Causey, collector. Causey, of Vienna, is a collector of items from The Wizard of Oz, I Love Lucy, Dark Shadows, The Munsters, The Addams Family, The Beverly Hillbillies, Harry Potter, and Gone With The Wind memorabilia.

Pieces of Causey’s collection, according to Peggy Sheppard, have been on loan to Turner Entertainment and displayed in the window of the Turner Store in the lobby of the CNN Center in Atlanta.

Causey will exhibit his Wizard of Oz and Gone With The Wind memorabilia at the Fair.

Cynthia “Cindini” Morrison, an escape artist, who has been featured on “Ripley’s Believe It or Not,” and the Discovery Channel, and recently showcased in the play, “Paradise Park,” directed by Burt Reynolds at his theater in Jupiter, Fla., will attempt a specialized, according to Sheppard, record-breaking feat at the Fair.

Cindini will be attempting to break a record of pulling a vehicle weighing more than 2.51 tons more than 84 ft. This will be at noon Oct. 4 near St. James Pennington Log Church. Cindini will also showcase her knife throwing, whip artistry and trick shooting on at 12: 30 and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Pioneer Opera barn.

Another attraction will be the Collectors Road Show. Appraisers will pay cash, according to Sheppard, for certain valuables such as gold coins, railroad items, Coca-Cola collectibles, stamps, post cards, watches, antique paper money and pre-1970 toys.

The Andersonville Historic Fair will also feature the Civil War Days with Confederate and Union encampments, and two mock battles. A parade will be led by the U.S. Marine Corps Band at 11 a.m. Saturday. More than 100 vendors, according to Sheppard, will be selling arts, crafts and more.
