ANDERSONVILLE — The Annual Capt. Henry Wirz Memorial Service sponsored by Alexander H. Stephens Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Americus, is 2 p.m. Sunday in the town of Andersonville near the Capt. Wirz Monument. Speaker for the service is the Rev. Walter Blackman.
Blackman has pastored East Highland Baptist Church in Hartselle, Ala., for the past nine years. He is a cum laude graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in history/religion, and received his master’s of divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served in the U.S. Army from 1975--1979. He is the immediate past Chaplain General of the Military Order of the Stars and Bars (MOSB), a life member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and is active in the Sons of Liberty Camp (SCV) in Decatur, Ala. He is married and has four children.

Sumter Gymnastics bring home first places
The Sumter County Gymnastics Academy team has entered its competition season for 2012. They attended two meets in January and brought home first places awards in both.
