Acoustic bombs detonated in Harveys

AMERICUS — Three juveniles detonated three homemade plastic bottle bombs inside Harveys Supermarket Sunday. Lt. Terrell Coley of the Americus Police Department said the bombs didn’t injury anyone, but made a very loud explosion and frightened customers and employees alike.

Coley said this type of bottle bomb is not uncommon among teenagers and “The Works” household cleaner is used to make them. He said the juveniles in Sunday’s bombing stole a bottle of The Works from Dollar General to make the bombs.

Coley also said that aluminum foil is placed inside the bottle along with the household cleaner to make the bomb which is detonated by a chemical reaction between the cleaning agents and the foil.
