MONTEZUMA — Rhonda Van Kampen taught a free lesson on “How to Draw Buildings” in the Macon County Historical Museum on a recent Saturday. Van Kampen, Macon County High School’s media center director and art club sponsor, taught how to break a building into component shapes and to render perspectives for three-dimensional details.
The workshop was held to prepare entrants for the Montezuma Historic Buildings Drawing Contest to be held in conjunction with Georgia Cities Week, April 19-25. The class was attended by Amy Pike, Bandon Lane, Bradley Gaines, Jody Cazenave, J’mari Lee, Jermaine Jackson, Tommy Gaines, Doug Fitzgerald, Brenden Fitzgerald, Tia Respert, Michael Edwards, Kayla Edwards, Brianna Miller, Katie Gilstrap and Devyn Deatherage.
The “Georgia Cities: A Story to Tell” theme pays tribute to the history and importance of the role cities play in economic development and quality of life. Drawings will be displayed and voted on in the City of Montezuma’s tent at the Relay for Life event on April 25. Gift certificates will be awarded for first, second and third place for elementary, high, middle and college age groups. Youth ages 6-21 are eligible to enter the Drawing Contest by submitting an 8 X 10 drawing of any building in downtown Montezuma by April 21.
Drawings can be entered in the contest by dropping them off at the Montezuma Downtown Development Authority office in the Railroad Depot at 97 E. Railroad St. from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Drawings can also be mailed to the attention of Camille Bielby at Montezuma DDA, P.O. Box 388, Montezuma GA 31063. Drawings can also be dropped off at City Hall from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday.
