Americus-Sumter High School art students design summer fans for The Carter Center

From Staff Reports

AMERICUS — After completing their preliminary sketches, art students in Catherine Varner's classes at Americus-Sumter High, completed their comprehensive designs for fans for The Carter Center in Atlanta, and The Jimmy Carter National Historic Site in Plains. A.S. Staley Middle School was also involved in the creative project. Each school was challenged to finish 100 fans in crayon, pencils or markers.

The focus of the fans is the work of The Carter Center. In addition to using “The Carter Center” in their fan design, students incorporated some or all mission phrases of The Carter Center and the Jimmy Carter world legacy.

“Waging Peace, Fighting Disease or Building Hope,” must be displayed on at least one side of the fan,” said Annette Wise, educational administrator of Plains High and the Jimmy Carter Historic Site.

Visitors to both The Carter Center in Atlanta and The Jimmy Carter National Historic Site in Plains will be encouraged to keep the fans as a souvenir from these sites.
