ELLAVILLE — One member of the 2009 Schley County High School Senior class was selected to receive a $500 scholarship established at South Georgia Technical College by Dr. Harold Holloway.
Bradly Graves Golden of Schley County was recognized as the Dr. Harold Holloway Scholarship winner to South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) at the Schley County High School awards day ceremony recently. He plans to enroll in SGTC’s avionics/aviation maintenance technology program this summer.
This the fourth year that Holloway has awarded scholarships to Schley County High School students wishing to attend SGTC in Americus. Josh Jordan and Kyle Carter, 2006 graduates of Schley County High School, were the initial recipients of the scholarship established by Holloway in 2006. Pamela Harden was the 2007 recipient and April Johnson was the 2008 scholarship winner.
Bradly Golden is the son of Bibb Golden Jr. and Susan Golden. He has a sister, Jill Wurtz, who also lives in Ellaville.
Bradly’s mother is a 1972 graduate of SGTC and she could not be prouder of her son’s decision. “He’s just following in his mom’s footsteps,” laughed Susan Golden who received her training in the clerical classes. “South Georgia Technical College was an excellent school and I am so thankful to them for my education and I am pleased that Bradly decided to enroll there in the aviation program.”
The Dr. Harold Holloway Scholarship, which was established through the SGTC Foundation, can be used to help defray educational costs such as tuition, books, fees, tools, cafeteria and dormitory expenses at SGTC.
“We are very appreciative of Dr. Holloway’s willingness to partner with South Georgia Technical College through the continuation of this scholarship,” said SGTC President Sparky Reeves. “The investment that he is making in South Georgia Technical College and these Schley County students will pay dividends for years to come.”
