AMERICUS —
In Thursday’s Times-Recorder, an article was published, titled, Rulebreakers Fined, explaining the water restrictions on the city of Americus and how the Environmental Protection Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources still had Americus under a level 2 drought restriction.
According to Robert Philmon, Americus Code Enforcement Officer, “Governor Sonny Perdue has removed as of today the drought declaration and put the whole state on non drought restrictions.”
Philmon, in a phone interview Thursday afternoon said, “We had called Wednesday before the article was released and were told we were still under water restrictions and then today, he removes the declaration.”
Even though water restrictions are lifted, somewhat, Philmon said, “People will still have to abide by the day restrictions as mentioned in the article. People who live on the north side of Lamar Street can water on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, and on the south side of Lamar Street, they can water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.”
He continued, “But they need to realize the day starts at 12 midnight and ends at 12 midnight.” Fines will still be placed on those who are caught not watering on the correct days.
Philmon did want to add, “The state does discourage people from watering their lawns between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. because of the evaporation rate during those times.”
