PLAINS — It is not Boston, it is Plains, but the Tea Party concept is still the same.
On July 4, Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. in the City Park in Plains will be the site for the 2nd Annual July 4th Tea Party, sponsored by the Tea Party Patriots.
According to Mike Sabot, a coordinator for the event, which is being held in conjunction with similar events to be held in Albany and other communities in southwest Georgia.
Sabot said, in a phone interview on Thursday, “This is the second time around for us, and before we were separate from the other communities, but this time, decided to go together so we could be a larger event, so that the officials in Washington might take notice.”
He continued, “Our purpose in holding the event is simple — we don’t see that the officials are hearing us. I just don’t think they are listening to the people and things seems to be one sided - their side.”
“This will be an informative event where people can just meet one another, enjoy themselves and find out what is going on with the world, and realize that they too have a voice and their voice should be heard,” said Sabot.
Attorney Bill Moorehead, III. of Albany, will be a special speaker as well Rev. James Brown.
“A gospel group out of Macon will be providing music as will the Blue Rhapsody group out of southwest Georgia,” said Sabot.
Games and more are being planned for children and “much more,” said Sabot.
“We are encouraging people to bring their own picnic baskets, and blankets and chairs.”
