Whaley elected to state office

AMERICUS —



ATLANTA – Richard A. Whaley, president and chief executive officer of Citizens Bank of Americus, has been elected by his peers throughout Georgia as vice chairman of the Georgia Bankers Association (GBA).

As vice chairman, Whaley will be responsible for overseeing the GBA’s educational programs. The GBA operates the Georgia Banking School, a three-year advanced banking curriculum held at the University of Georgia, and coordinates Georgia access to seven other key regional banking schools such as the Graduate School of Banking at LSU. The GBA also offers 10 topical banking conferences each year, more than 30 in-person seminars and more than 250 online courses and webinars for bankers. Each year, more than 6,000 of Georgia bankers participate in the GBA’s in-person and online professional development opportunities for career bankers.

“Rick is a talented banker who will provide valuable experience and insight to the GBA as one of its officers,” said Joe Brannen, GBA president and CEO. “His particular commitment to ongoing education will help provide the strong leadership and development our bankers need in today’s economic environment.”

Whaley has a long history of leadership to the GBA. During the course of his career, he’s has served as a member of the GBA board of directors, the Governance Task Force, Community Bankers Committee, Nominating Committee and as a group officer.



A native of Americus, Whaley has 20 years’ experience in the banking industry. Before taking the reins as president and CEO for Citizens Bank of Americus in August 2001, he served as a city president, corporate and commercial banker in various Georgia markets for Wachovia. Rick is a 1989 Graduate of Georgia Southwestern College, with a bachelor of science degree in Political Science.
