AMERICUS —
The Americus Mayor and City Council held a brief session Thursday for its first regular meeting of 2013.
The following items were included in the consent agenda, which was unanimously approved:
• Minutes of City Council — Administrative Briefing held Nov. 5, 2012.
• Minutes of City Council — Agenda Setting Meeting held Nov. 8, 2012.
• Minutes of City Council -—City Council Meeting held Nov. 15, 2012.
• Minutes of City Council — Budget Work Session held Nov. 19, 2012.
• Minutes of City Council — Administrative Briefing held Dec. 10, 2012.
• Minutes of City Council — Agenda Setting Meeting held Dec. 13, 2012.
• Minutes of City Council — City Council Meeting held Dec. 20, 2012.
• Minutes of City Council — Called Meeting held Dec. 27, 2012.
• Natural Gas Truck Bid — Bid for the purchase of a truck for the City’s Natural Gas Department.
The Mayor and Council also took the following actions,
• Personnel Ordinance Amendment. Mayor and Council voted to suspend the rules and take action to approved the ordinance.
• A first reading of a public urination ordinance was considered. The ordinance makes it illegal for anyone to urinate in public outside of a designated area.
• Council considered for a for a first reading an ordinance to adopt the most current Georgia Uniform Rules of the Road.
• Approval of Habitat for Humanity’s zoning request to rezone six properties on Dudley Street from C-2 (Commercial) to R-2( Residential).
• Approval of Chapter 94 Ordinance Amendment.
• Approval of a resolution requesting the local legislative delegation to introduce in the General Assembly the creation of the Land Bank Authority for Sumter County.
• Claire Simmerson was reappointed to the Andersonville Trail.
• Sybil Smith was appointed to Americus-Sumter County Payroll Development Authority.
• Janet Siders was appointed to the Americus Theater and Cultural Center Authority.

The Home Run to be held in Jay Williams’ memory
Jay Williams, of Plains, was an outdoor type of guy, enjoying activities such as running and bicycling. He was also a spiritual man and enjoyed sharing his faith with others. When he died after a falling accident in June 2012, his friends really missed him. Two of those friends, Travis Kelly and Rebecca Ferguson, decided to carry out a race event that Williams had planned, to benefit the Methodist Youth Home in Americus.
