ANDERSONVILLE — The Maureen Butler Smith Art Show is located in the Andersonville Trail Association office on the main street near the Wirz Monument.
Maureen Smith says, “I am an oil painter who loves to work out of doors in order to capture the vibrant colors of nature on site.” She has painted landscapes while on excursions with friends and at workshops along the coast of Georgia’s Golden Isles, the mountains of North Georgia and the craggy coast of New England, as well as in rural Southwest Georgia. Recently, she has been working on a series of “Nightsky” paintings. “Painting the sky with stars,” she says.
Maureen Smith has been interested in art all her life. Born in Yonkers, N.Y., she moved to Georgia in 1982, with her husband, the late Robert Smith, and two children, now grown. She holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting and drawing from Georgia Southwestern College. She is owner and manager of The Frame Emporium in Americus, which has become a sort of informal show place for the works of area artists.
Smith is the founding president of the Americus-Sumter Arts Council. Her paintings hang in the Joseph House Gallery in Columbus.
