AMERICUS — The 21st Annual Madrigal Dinner is coming soon and The Windsor Hotel is busy planning for this special event! The hotel’s Victorian lobby will be transformed to reflect the 16th century renaissance feasts that were held in the medieval castles of Elizabethan England. Thousands of white lights will light up the exterior of the hotel to bring an even more majestic aspect to the evening. Guests will enjoy the historic cuisine while being entertained by the Georgia Southwestern State University Chamber Singers, let by Julie Megginson, Ph.D. This year for the first time there will be an element of dance provided by Christi Barr from the Americus Dance Experience.

The madrigal dinner tickets are $39.95 per person including tax and gratuity. The Madrigal Package will also be available that includes the madrigal for two, and a one-night stay in one of our period style rooms to make your experience even more special, offered for $169.

As a tradition, the dinner menu will include dishes prepared from authentic 16th century recipes including a wassail bowl, crusty bread with assorted cheeses and fruits, cream of squash soup, new choices of roasted beef au jus or stuffed turkey breast with cranberry relish, wild rice, a bundle of green beans and baked custard with walnut topping for dessert.

This wonderful event will be held Nov. 13 and 14 beginning at 6 p.m. in Floyd’s Pub where guests can socialize with Dutch-treat cocktails. At 7 p.m. guests will be directed to the lobby where the magic will begin. According to Megginson, there will be not only English madrigals, but French, German and Italian madrigals. There will even be seasonal carols sung. The students will sing almost all of the songs a cappella to provide a genuine 16th century serenade.

At each dinner, a special couple will be chosen to reign as king and queen, and another special guest who is dressed in the best renaissance costume will be awarded a prize.
