Walk of Fame: The City of Americus invites the public to the Walk of Fame 2009 Ceremony and Reception at 2:30 p.m. today atthe Rylander Theatre. The inductees are Clarence Jordan, William B. King, Ph.D., J. Frank Myers, Roy Lee and Susan Smith, and Luther Story.

Public Forum: The new Sumter County School superintendent public forum is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the cafeteria of Sumter County Middle School. The public is invited to share their ideas and comments.



Tourism Council: The Americus-Sumter Tourism Council meets Wednesday at the Americus-Sumter County Chamber of Commerce. The executive committee meets at 3:30 p.m. followed by the board at 4 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.



Holiday Open House: Kick off the holiday season at the Holiday Open House from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in downtown. Enjoy holiday refreshments, visit with Santa or take a carriage ride through downtown.



Informational Session: Join Tina Wright from ElderCare Pharmacy to learn about the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan and upcoming changes at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Magnolia Room at the Magnolia Manor Retirement Center, 2001 S. Stage Production: The Sumter Players Inc. and GSW/Dramatics Arts production of “Twelve Angry Men” takes the stage of the Rylander Theatre at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Nov. 22. Tickets for reserved seating at all performances are available at the Rylander box office, 310 W. Lamar St.(telephone 931-0001 or (toll free) 1 877 662-2312). Tickets can also be purchased online 24/7 at rylander.org and sumterplayer.org. Major credit/debit cards are accepted. Students in eighth through 12th grades will be admitted free of charge to any performance.



Parent Night: A.S. Staley Middle School has rescheduled Parent Night to 6-8 p.m. Thursday featuring Math Night and "ICARE" presentations and enjoy performances by the SMS Band and Chorus.



Male Health Day: Cherokee Elementary School’s pre-K resource coordinators host a Male Health Day at 9 a.m. Friday when Dr. John Marshall conducts a workshop. All men are invited. Call 924-5449 to RSVP.



Andersonville

Cemetery Tour: Andersonville National Historic Site hosts a Cemetery Tour with Clara Barton, the “Angel of Andersonville,” at 2 p.m. Saturday at Andersonville National Cemetery. This program is made possible by the Friends of Andersonville and the Andersonville Trust. The Andersonville Trust supports projects for the education and enhancement of Andersonville National Historic Site. There is no charge for this event and it is open to the public.

Cane Syrup Day: Jimmy Carter National Historic Site celebrates Cane Syrup Day, Saturday which highlights cane syrup making in the “good ole days.” Demonstrations are between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and include cane stripping, cane squeezing, syrup making, corn shelling and blacksmithing. Plan to visit the Boyhood Farm at Jimmy Carter National Historic Site for Cane Syrup Day and experience what life was like in the 1930s. There is no charge for this event or to visit the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site.



Ellaville

Fruit Sale: The Schley County Association of Concerned Citizens Inc. Atlanta Branch is selling fresh fruit: Navel oranges 20 lbs./$18, 40 lbs./$32; red grapefruit 20 lbs./$18, 40 lbs./$32; juice oranges 20 lbs./$18, 40 lbs./$32; tangelos 20 lbs./$18, 40lbs./$32; red and golden Granny Smith apples 20 lbs./$25, 40 lbs./$40. Do you wonder if there is anyone one out there who understands what you and your loved one are going through? The Georgia REACH team is here to help. Georgia REACH provides information on Alzheimer’s and related dementias, teaches how to manage troubling behaviors and provides tools to manage stress. Girls Rock: 4-E Learning & Prevention Center Inc., 802 Ashby St., sponsors Girls R.O.C.K. (Respecting Ourselves with Charisma & Klass) from 4-6 p.m. every Friday for girls ages 8-16. Safety Signs: The Sumter County Extension Office, 331 U.S. Highway 19 South, offers a safety address sign to residents and property owners. The blue sign is made of 12” by 6” engineering grade sign material with 4” No. M reflective numbers and/or letters. It is attached to a 36” metal post. The sign is highly visible at night and easily spotted during the day time. Signs are $18 and a portion of the proceeds go to the local 4-H Club youth program. Come by the Extension Office and complete a safety sign order dorm today. For more information call 924-4476.



Volunteers Needed: Several residents at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center enjoy getting out of the facility whenever possible. Volunteers are needed to assist residents with their weekly menus. Volunteers would be needed Thursday or Fridays to help residents mark and read the food items they would have as their meals. After School Classes: The 4-E Learning and Prevention Center Inc. offers after school and tutoring services in math/reading/language arts/science/social studies/CRCT/EOCT test preparation, and a new program, Girls ROCK (Respecting Ourselves with Charisma and Klass), etiquette skills/music/dance/community projects and field trips. Narcotics Anonymous: “Just For Today,” Narcotics Anonymous meets at 7:30 p.m. every Monday and Thursday, 8 p.m. every Wednesday and 7:30 p.m. every Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 125 S. Jackson St. (enter through double-glass doors in fellowship hall; park on street or in public parking lot). There’s a speaker every last Thursday of each month.
