AMERICUS — For almost two years, Staley Middle School Principal Victoria Harris has been yearning to find a way to enhance the entrance to her school. Now that the Archway Project from the University of Georgia is active, the Staley Middle Math and Science Club has purchased and planted fall decorations at the entrance to this welcoming building.
This Beautification Project was directed by Frank Latimore, retired County Extension agent and mentor to a student at Staley Middle. After area preparation, the gentle planting and marking of several dozen blue, white and gold pansy plants will soon bloom to show an abundance of welcoming color.
"I do appreciate Mr. Latimore's skill and willingness to help our Science and Math Club students to improve this western entrance to our school. The ‘SMS’ design that was planted below the cafeteria window will be a visible reminder of the good environment awaiting visitors and students at Staley," said Harris.
In addition to this sidewalk area planting, pine bark has been placed around the antique Staley Institute historic sign and pine straw will adorn the young oak tree in the front lawn area.
