AMERICUS — South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) is celebrating Homecoming 2009 on Saturday, when the JETS host Brewton-Parker JV and the Lady JETS host Clinton Junior College in the “Hangar,” the South Georgia Technical College gymnasium.
A number of special activities are planned for today and Saturday and all alumni are encouraged to attend the homecoming basketball games. The Lady Jets game begins at 5:30 p.m. and the Jets follow at 7:30 p.m.
The Americus-Sumter County Chamber of Commerce is helping with the Homecoming Celebration by sponsoring a tailgate party prior to the women’s game from 4-6 p.m. Saturday. All students, staff, alumni and the community are invited.
Free “SGTC Basketball” T-shirts will be given away on a first come, first served basis, so fans are encouraged to come early and enjoy the Chamber tailgate party.
The official Homecoming activities will kick off today with Spirit Day. All students, faculty and staff have been asked to wear red and black today. A special pep rally is also planned for 11 a.m. today in the gymnasium.
Students have also been participating in a Spirit Banner contest, in which different program areas design and create a banner in support of the Jets and Lady Jets. The contest will be judged at the homecoming pep rally, and the program areas with the two best banners will receive trophies for first and second place.
There will also be an “around the world” game and a balloon popping game at the pep rally. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.
